The 2018 NBA Playoffs are back on Sunday with a Western Conference Finals showdown between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets. These teams split the opening pair of matchups by exchanging blowouts, with the Dubs taking the opener by 13 points and Houston evening things up in the second contest with a 22-point margin of victory.
Now the action shifts to Golden State, where the Rockets can steal back homecourt advantage by picking up a "W" in Game 3.
Oddsmakers aren’t giving Houston much of a chance on the road, however, opening the squad as an 8.5-point underdog for the matchup. It’s a large spread, but not an unexpected one. Even in the wake of a convincing Rockets victory in Game 2, the Warriors are massive favorites to take the series and advance to their fourth straight NBA Finals.
While the series odds aren’t as lopsided as they were after Game 1 (which saw Golden State reach nearly 1-5 odds (-475) to win the WCF, compared to Houston at +425) the Warriors are still heavy, -300 chalk to emerge from this best-of-seven, while the Rockets are now at +250. An upset in Game 3 or 4 would certainly force Vegas to shift these odds closer to even, but unless the Rockets take back homecourt advantage they will remain a steady ‘dog.
